Lex worked on his tactical report as he rode the turbo lift up to the bridge, he just finished as the doors slid open on the bridge. He stepped out and moved across the bridge. He nodded to the young tactical officer that was at the tactical station. He stopped at the door to the Colonel's ready room, hitting the door chime he thought to him self, lets try this again.
She looked up from her reports, "Enter." Leah said as she see the door open.
Lex entered the room he smiled at the half Bajoran, half Vulcan woman sitting behind the rather large desk across from the door. With out even thinking he quickly saluted, it had been years since he had done it but his body just reacted when he saw her.
"Major Alexander Kainen reporting sir!"
"Ah, welcome Major please have a seat." Leah stated looking at him, "Welcome aboard officially." Leah stated with a soft smile.
Lex sat down in one of the chairs across from the Colonel, they were far more comfy than he had expected.
"Thank you Colonel, I'm Sorry i didn't come to meet you sooner but after the staff meeting I decided that with the type of mission we are going on and with this ship still being new it would be best if the offensive and defensive systems were tested and checked."
Lex leaned over and handed the report to the Colonel.
"That is a complete report on the diagnostic, there is not anything major all the systems are up to spec."
She took the padd and looked at it for a moment then looked at him, "Good job Major." Leah stated as she looked at him, "How are long and short range sensors? Is their a way to extend the long range to go a bit farther into Cardassian Space?" She asked looking at him.
"I tested all 50 of the tactical sensor pallets and they were all functioning with 98.78%, well with in the specs of the arrays. As for the active and passive sensor arrays I can look into it as there is no current chief science officer. Now as of how to extend the sensors..."
Lex thought for a few minutes, he defiantly wasn't a science officer but one of the benefits of deep space missions is you learn every department so he new a far bit about the sensors.
"We could tie in the astrometric sensors to the main sensor array, there not really designed for accuracy so they wouldn't give us as clear of a picture as our active sensors but we should be able to pick up subspace distortions at about five to eight times our normal sensor range. Now that's not the best way to detect ships at warp but its something.
As for system and planetary scans it should increase our sensor range by about 12 to 15 times but at that range it would just tell you the planetary conditions and maybe biological levels. Could you tell a planets population of a certain species... I doubt it but we would be able to compare it to the last reading we have on file and tell if there is any major differences. This is all theory after all, I would have to talk to the astrometrics officer and the acting chief science officer and run some simulations but if you can give me an hour or two I can have a report on whether it will work or not and a time line on the modifications that would be needed."
She nodded, "I'll keep that in mind we might use it just to scan a little further into their space without getting to close at the moment." Leah stated as she looked at him. "Could you run test on the holodeck to see how good it be? So that way we can do it if need be." Leah asked looking at him.
"I will make it my first priority and I will have a report on its viability to you before we leave."
"Thank you, Is their anything else you needed?" Leah asked as she looked at him.
"I would just like to thank you for accepting my transfer, I don't think i could have done another six year deep space mission."
"Your welcome, you may go I am sure you got a lot of work to get done before our departure." Leah stated looking at him.
Lex stood up, saluted, then left the ready room. His first meeting with the Colonel was short but he thought he got a good read on his new CO.
She watched him leave and just sat their for a moment, she was debating on going to lay down for a couple of hours she could tell she was beginning to get drained. Was it her pregnancy, and it being close to the end that was making her so tired as of late. She just shrugged she wanted to finish a little more work before she put her Executive Officer in charge for a few hours.
