Mission: S1E1: Restructuring
Location: Roosevelt Station
Timeline: MD01 0900

The circular docking bay door slowly rolled back. Starfleet personnel stormed onto the station. The latest group of Starfleet at arrived on Roosevelt Station. Transport Galileo was carrying crew and supplies for the run down former Cardassian station. A young female ensign, short in statue walked off the docking bay. She was talking rapidly to a Human male just shy of 2 meters. His black and gray uniform was contoured with the teal trim of a science officer. The slender reddish-blonde haired lieutenant was listening to the chatty ensign. She sat next to him as they left Starbase 310. He was barely able to get a word in with her, but he had enjoyed her company.

Starfleet personnel were shuffled to a special customs post to the left of the others. The customs officer took his credentials. “Don’t I know you,” the customs officer said to the science officer. He paused and ran the credentials. “Lieutenant Rhys Vanghan…”

“We had Birth of the Federation together at Starfleet Academy,” Rhys said. His brain ran through memories of Starfleet Academy.

“Looks like you’ve done well for yourself, Chief Science Officer and all,” the customs officer said as he handed back the lieutenant’s credentials. He took the ensign’s credentials. She had barely missed a word during the brief introduction.

They both turned and started to walk away. The Cardassian architecture in the corridor was different from what most Starfleet officer were accompany. The corridor soon changed as the promenade appeared before them. Rhys looked around. It was different from Deep Space Nine. It was empty and in need of repair. As the lieutenant approached the turbolift, he was still being followed by the ensign. “Are you going to Ops too,” he asked her.

She paused, “Oh, I completely lost track of time. I need to head to sickbay. Care to go to lunch together sometime?”

Rhys gave a fake smile kind of being annoyed by the ensign. “If I get time,” he answered her. The turbolift door opened and Rhys entered before the ensign could respond. “Ops,” he said. The turbolift zoomed upward. An odd grinding noise was coming from the lift. ‘That’s not good,’ Rhys thought to himself.

The turbolift came to a stop and the door slowly opened. It stopped halfway open. The Lieutenant took his hands and pried the door the rest of the way open. The Operations Center of the Station was poorly lit, but the crew were running around the center like ants trying to intergrade the Federation technology into the Cardassian computers. The Commanding Officer’s office was dark with no one inside. Rhys walked over to the console to the right of the engineering officer.

“Lieutenant,” the engineering said. “Maybe your console will work,” he laughed.

“I’m not familiar with Cardassian technology, but hopefully I can make it work,” Rhys said as he entered his command code into the console. The console lit up. ‘Welcome,’ it said in the traditional Cardassian dialect. ‘Was this how Captain Dax felt when she was science officer on Deep Space Nine?’ he thought to himself.
